Hostage

You sit there, staring at me
With empty eyes
The love has run out of them
“You can’t keep me here forever,
We can’t stay here forever,
You eventually have to let me go,
You can’t hold them off forever.”
You’re right I know this,
But if I hold out a little longer…
“You’ll always want a little longer,
Just let me go and it’ll be ok…eventually.”
I give in, I untie you, I release you,
And as you leave, they start to rush in
And I’m left there alone in silent chaos
That’s when I realize why I held you there
And as I watch you happily embracing
Your significant other
I also realize why
I could no longer keep you
Hostage
