My Thoughts On Recent Events…

I will preface this by saying that this has never been nor will ever be a political profile because I have never been nor will ever be a political person. I’m not affiliated with either side of the political parties. Also, this post has mentions of hate groups, reader discretion is advised.

My Heart Goes Out To The Children Of Charlie Kirk

In the midst of any public figure’s passing, it’s easy for the focus to shift to their actions, beliefs, and the reactions of the wider world. However, in these moments, it’s crucial to remember the profound and often overlooked impact on their families, especially their children. The pain of losing a parent is a universal experience, and for young ones, this loss can be particularly devastating, shaping their lives in ways that extend far beyond the political or public sphere.

The narrative surrounding an individual can become incredibly complex, eliciting strong emotions and diverse opinions from those who knew them, followed their work, or were impacted by their decisions. For some, the passing of Charlie Kirk might represent the end of a figure they vehemently opposed, while for others, it could signify the silencing of a voice that resonated deeply with their own struggles and aspirations. Yet, for his children, these external interpretations hold little weight against the personal void left by their father’s absence. He was their protector, their confidant, their world, and that is an irreplaceable loss.

Therefore, in the face of such tragedy, it’s a worthy exercise to set aside the prevailing discourse and the cacophony of opinions. By choosing to focus on the innocent hearts affected, we can offer a space for empathy and understanding that transcends partisan divides. I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m choosing to throw out the politics and all the noise and take a moment and show compassion to those children.

His Death Isn’t The Win A Lot Of People Think It Is…

Hot take: I don’t think that Charlie Kirk’s death is the win that a lot of people think it is.

The main reason for this is up until his death I didn’t know who he was. I’m not a political person, I’ve never aligned with either side of things. I had seen one or two of his videos in the past on YouTube or Instagram, but didn’t know him by name.

I’m pretty sure and I might be completely wrong for assuming this (most likely not) but thousands if not millions of people found out who he was after he was killed. Let’s say it’s a million people and let’s say half of them like what he has to say…that’s 500k new Charlie Kirk fans that would otherwise not know who he is.

Everyone is entitled to believe what they want, if you believe he was a bad person and deserved to die I’m not going to tell you you’re a bad person for it (your karma might get a little jacked up though). I don’t agree with some of my friend’s opinions or beliefs about Charlie Kirk. I’m old school so I can disagree with you and not disown you.

But yeah I don’t think it’s a win in the long run. That’s just my opinion, don’t shoot me…(is it too soon? It’s too soon…😐)

The Landscape Just Got Darker…

We all know what transpired on September 10 of this year. Some of us celebrated it as a win against an opposing evil, other mourn it as a tragic loss of a respected and revered ally. I see it for what it basically was and is, a son/husband/father lost his life to an act of violence. This singular act will most undoubtily have effects that I don’t think either sides are truly prepared for. Whether you agreed with the man or not is irrelivant now, a can of worms has just been opened up that cannot be closed and what will come out of that can will effect us all no matter your allignment.

The times ahead for Americans are going to be dark, the darkest it’s been in a very long time. That bullet didn’t just silence one individual, it enraged half of our country. We haven’t been this divided as a nation since the 60’s. Families are separating, friendhips decades old ending, over what? Which political party you support…to me that’s a ludicrous concept. This divisiveness amongst Americans is more dangerous than most of us realize. Not only to internal dangers such as civil violence, but also external threats. America looks like a weak and confused mess to all other nations watching us and we’ve looked that way for the better part of a decade.

Notice I didn’t say “for the left” or “for the right” I said there’s going to be dark times “for Americans” period. America is at a very volitile and vulnerable state right now. The divide is getting wider and wider, the cracks on the surface are turning into canyons and were busy arguing to notice the shift of the landscape.

The Great Disservice…

For the love of everything you hold dear, can we stop using words like “Nazi” to describe people you disagree with? You’re doing a disservice to anyone who has come in contact or felt the wrath those types of individuals. There are only two recognized Nazi groups, the first being obviously the Nazi Party lead by Adolf Hitler between 1939-1945. Over 6 million jewish people lost their lives and countless millions and their families lived with the affects of the acts of said party. Using that word as casually as it’s being used these days is only diluting the meaning of that word. It’s a slap in the face to those who have felt the effects of actual nazis.

The second recognized group that is still fuctioning today is the Aryan Brotherhood. They are a highly organized group both inside prison as well as outside. I had an encounter with one of these individuals when I was 13. I didn’t know it at the time, but I came face to face with a member of that infamous group.

It was 1993, me and a few of my friends were hanging out down by the basketball courts that were adjacent to the highschool. There were 4 of us,I was the only black kid in my friend group, the other 3 were Lewis whos is White/Hispanic and Thomas and Peter who are both blonde haired, blue eyed Polish kids. We sitting outside the basketball court on the grass by the sidewalk. The were two full court goal setups, the one furtherest from us had a full court game going on. On the court behind us there was a group of kist just shoot around on one side while right behind us was a 3-on-3 pickup game. That’s where the man in question was.

Me and my friends were listening to my copy of Enter The Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers. We weren’t blasting it , just chillin and having fun when all of a sudden we hear, “TURN THE MOTHERFUCKIN SHIT OFF! NOBODY WANTS TO HEAR THAT FUCKING SHIT!” Two guesses who said that, but you’ll only need one. We didn’t turn it off. About 5 minutes later, he was at it again only this time he came up to the fence and banged on it, “i FUCKIN SAID TURN THAT FUCKING SHIT OFF! I DON’T WANT TO HEAR THAT FUCKIN GARBAGE!” Peter, god bless him, being that sarcastic motherfucker he is replied by saying, “FUCK YOU! WE AIN’T TURNIN SHIT OF BITCH!” and proceeds to turn the music up.

This doesn’t sit well with out new friend, so he comes out to where we were. He had to walk a complete rectangle from where he was at behind us, down to the other end of the court he was on, across the width of both courts, out the exit, up to the sidewalk and then back across to where we were. When he got there, he stood in front of me. He was probably 6’3″-6’4″ about 230-250 all muscle. I could see his tattoos through his sweaty white wifebeater. He towered over me, I was about 6 ft even and I was may 180. “WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU SAY TO ME N—-R? THIS IS THE PROBLEM WITH YOU PEOPLE, YOU THINK YOU CAN JUST GO AROUND DOING WHATEVER THE FUCK YOU WANNA DO! YOU NEED TO GO BACK TO AFRICA WITH ALL THE OTHER N—-RS!”

Now here’s the thing, I had read the Autobiography of Malcolm X and saw the Denzel Washington movie, so I was channeling that energy…I was also a dumb kid lol! I turned the music down a bit, stood up in front of him and calm said, “Ok, I’ll go back, but you’ll have to get the boat like last time and when you drop me off in Africa you can go back to Europe where you’re from.” I then sat back down and turned the music back up. Needless to say our new friend did not like what I had to say. His buddies had to pull him away. He eventually stomped off to his car and sped off, pulling up across from where I was sitting, looked at me and yelled, “IF I SEE YOU AGAIN, I’M GONNA KILL YOU!” and he drove off. Thankfully I never saw that man again.

Later on, when I was in college I did a powerpoint presentation on the holocaust (yes your boy is that old lol). While researching for that I came across so articles about the Aryan Brotherhood and there on that webpage staring back at me were a set of tattoo that were very similar to the tattoos I saw on that man, later on I would learn from someone who I chatted with who claimed they were in the Aryan Brotherhood that those tattoos are only for members.

Why did I tell you that story? Because when you throw around a word like “Nazi” you do a disservice to that 13 year old boy who stared that evil in the face and didn’t flinch, but rather calm beat it with facts. That boy who dealt with actual racism that wasn’t typed on a screen, but was actually in front of so close it left spittle on his skin. Using words like that only dilute their meaning and significance to the point where the history and the struggles of those who lived through actual events become meaningless.

The Age Of Spin

The comedian Dave Chappelle once said that “we live in the age of Spin”, and age where narratives overwrite truth. When I was 6 my first grade teacher wheeled a TV into the classroom to watch the Challenger Space Shuttle launch. Things were going great for the first 10 minutes and then boom the shuttle exploded, teachers were crying, students were crying. We got sent home early that day.

Today we are bombarded with information so much we are over saturated, it’s literally like the shuttle blows up every day. People have been so desensitized to tragedy that they’ve don’t even have the decency to let a man’s body get cold before they mock his death. Do you not understand that we all found out that he had been shot and then later died in real time, at virtually the same time his wife found out. What used to be 6/11 o’clock news is now streamed directly to you 24/7.

Most of the time that news, that information is misinformation. Sometimes it’s just a mistake done in haste to try and be the first to deliver it, other times it’s deliberate to mislead us and push narratives. These tactics do know sides, race, religion. It comes from all communities. Listen, I didn’t know the man, I’ve only looked deeper at him the past few days, but I can say that he was a bit cocky, sometimes a downright jerk, he said things I don’t agree with, but I can honestly say that I truly don’t have any idea why he was so vehemently hated on such a deep level that people were dancing on his grave before it was even dug.
