When you were five, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a police officer. One of my favorite shows back then was CHiPs (Yeah, I’m that old…lol). I was even Ponch for Halloween one year. Being a police officer looked cool and exciting…on TV. I wanted to bust bad guys and send them to jail. I wanted to help people.
As I got older I learned it wasn’t it appeared to be on TV. Shows like COPS and Law And Order put things into perspective. They showed me that it wasn’t always so cut and dry, that sometimes the “bad guys” aren’t even bad, just people who make bad choices. Those shows complicated things.
When I was five the world was such a simple place or rather I saw it that way. CHiPs busted the bad guys and sent them to jail in 30 minutes. As I got older I learned that this wasn’t always the case. That the word wasn’t so simple. I learned that life was complicated.
